Aerosystems has successfully demonstrated a shipboard recovery system
recently developed by the company for its "Tern" UAS at
the firm's "Ragged Island" flight test facility located
in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.
For this activity, standard BAI Tern UAVs were converted from
their conventional "tricycle" (steerable nose gear / fixed
main gear) configuration to skids with a lightweight tail hook. Recovery
was demonstrated in an area of only 50 square feet. Additional testing
in preparation for Tern's participation in an upcoming military
exercise is planned for later this month.
